Water supply and water treatment
Whether from rivers, lakes, dams or the ground water – clean drinking water is a prerequisite for human life. Drinking water is understood as water that is so clean that it is suitable for humans to drink or cook with. Water suppliers therefore have the task of thoroughly testing and guaranteeing the water quality from the point of exploration, via treatment and transportation to supplying the water to the end customer.
Our valves can help with perfect technical solutions that meet all national and international requirements. They, therefore, consistently satisfy the strict hygiene standards where drinking water is concerned with well thought-out designs, top-quality materials and expert workmanship. If it comes to thousands of kilometers of pipelines or huge pumping stations, the optimum design of the installation is at the forefront of this application, as only correct dimensioning with optimum flow values can assure long-term and cost-effective operation with minimum energy costs.
Three pipelines, each 128 m long, provide a safe water supply for the nearly 4 million
inhabitants of the Turkish capital of Ankara.
Water for the capital – Ankara, Turkey
Suffering from an extreme shortage of drinking water, the administration of the Turkish capital of Ankara decided to have a 128 km long pipeline built from Kesikköprü to their city. With diameters from 140 to 160 cm, the three pipelines can transport up to 9,000 litres per second towards Ankara. ERHARD was a major supplier of the project and provided nearly 2,500 different valves – from butterfly valves and needle valves to gate valves and air valves. In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, ERHARD was also envolved in the engineering part as well as in on-site-training for the Turkish staff.
For highest quality – water softening in Sallmannsberg
More then 125,000 people in the counties Donau-Ries, Dillingen and Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen are supplied by the “Bayerische Rieswasserversorgung” in Nördlingen, Germany. An optimal quality is ensured by the new water works in Sallmannsberg, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art water softening facility. By means of fast decarbonisation water hardness is reduced from 21° dH to 13 °dH, which equals a medium hardness.
Water supply on highest level – La Paz, Bolivia
A city with 1.3 million inhabitants and modern office towers located at an altitude of 3,650 meters – this is La Paz, the world’s highest city of over a million inhabitants. The city is primarily supplied with water by the Planta Achachicala water treatment plant. At the beginning of the 1970s, the plant – due to the increasing demand – was modernised and extended from a production capacity of 400 l/s to 1,000 l/s. Planta Achachicala is fed by four water reservoirs. Almost all water valves in the entire plant are supplied by ERHARD. This includes 20 wafer type valves, more than 70 butterfly valves with nominal width range from DN 300 to DN 600, partly with pneumatic drive, partly with handwheel, as well as a number of conventional shut-off valves.
Using a water softening facility provides a perfect water quality in Bavaria.
The Planta Achachicala ensures the water supply for the city of La Paz.
